      Hello, and good evening gents,
      A quick question to those with the experience
      I understand champion h10-j was the original, original spark plug for the Elto Pal,
      Question is, which plugs do folks commonly LIKE to run regarding performance that are a close substitution for this.
      What Id really like to find out, is would my NOS champion j-7j ‘s that I have around the basement be in the ball park…
      I’m guessing j7j is a step hotter version of j6c , and I’ve heard some rumors online some do run those plugs….. any help would be great, don’t want to entirely shoot from the hip. I like running with extra oil and find one hotter plug gives me good results, deposit wise… thoughts?

        I am not verifying that the H10J is or isn’t, the right plug for a Pal. But the “H” has to do with thread length; and the H is longer by a tad, than the “J”. The J plug may not reach as far into the combustion chamber as it should. Also, “10” is hotter that “7”, so you may get some plug fouling. There seem to be some H10Js online for sale. Why wouldn’t you just get the right plug? Disclaimer: I do have a Pal but have never gotten around to playing with it, yet; so these are armchair observations.

          A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

            I guess Champion created the H10 specifically to make an idiot out of me. That is the only time I have ever seen a Champion that is out of whack in the heat range like that. Champions are generally hotter as the number goes up, while for whatever reason, NGKs go down in number as the heat range goes up. Sometimes I just cannot win.

              A Champion H10C or better yet an NGK B6L are listed as direct replacement plugs for the old H10J.

                Thank you all for this information!
                What I suppose I do is run a new spark plug from Mumbles’ list and display my early j plug for winter. It’s nice to know it would be reasonably appropriate. Thanks, Tubs for the low-down on the differences ! I’m surprised as Billw the heat range appears as close as it does.

                  Champion H10 is still a popular plug alot of older garden tractors with Kohler motors use them the old Ford flat head in the 8n tractors used them lots of other equipment too. H12 was the next hotter plug I believe Auto;ite 437 is same as h12 alot of people use the Autolite as they claim the new Champions are garbage I have saw alot of guys use the NGK but I think if they were alive Henry Ford or Ole Evinrude would send a lynch party if I put a Jap plug in one of these built in The USA or Canada of all North American steel wonders of boating and farming pleasure.
