I don’t know if the coil is good or bad, but the insulation on the wires are brittle. Can I cut them off within an inch of the coil and solder new wires on and cover solder joint with shrink wrap? I have a video off of youtube that shows how to rebuild the coil with an inexpensive military 2 cycle coil. I want to try to get this motor started.
      Thanks, Robert

Of course that will be a temporary fix – they will sill be weak where they exit the coil container.

Hard to get a good solder bond on old wires like that. The condenser is probably bad after 90 years. Those are two reasons why I rebuild the ELTO coils.

In my experience with many of these Elto coils is that the secondary is actually good. It’s the internal capacitor (condensor) that is faulty causing a no spark issue.
I replace the timer and battery cables and the spark plug leads while I have it open.
The original Elto coils give a nice fat spark.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
