Electric start Antique Evinrudes were available through the early 1940s – – – 😀

The Senior Speedster Steve Woods has gives great boat rides. He runs the Atwater Kent ignition system on four ""D" cells in a capped PVC pipe. One of the most efficient ignitions ever devised. It only draws current when the engine is running. – – – 🙂

Thanks for the photos of what an original looks like and the advertisements. A lot of interesting information and conversation.

He's livin' in his own private Idaho..... I hope to go out quietly in my sleep, like my grand-dad did..... and not screaming, like the passengers in his car...

Thank you. It starts real easy and runs like a top. It also came with this bracket/handle for remote steering. Assuming this was homemade but not sure.

it does look home-made. Looks like they used part of a tiller arm bracket and added some stuff to it. Don’t recall any official Elto accessories like that. If it works – then that’s all that matters.

This one came through an estate sale a few years ago – minus it’s tank and sprayed with varnish (?). It was lots of money, so I passed, but I still have a copy of the Owen-Dynato manual if anyone interested in a copy.

Interesting. I thought of doing something similar, but I assumed the D cells wouldn’t have enough capacity. How long will a motor run with this configuration?

Steve often runs 6 to 8 hours a day. I don’t know how often he changes batteries. . . 😕
