Looking for a good tank or a parts motor with a good tank for a 1940/41 ELTO Weedless Fisherman outboard model 4341…same tank is used on motors with the standard lower unit. It is about 11 across and has the filler cap in the middle. Or is there somebody out there who can straighten tanks? I do not want to polish it up as it is going on an old duck boat so would prefer finding a good original if possible. Thanks for any help!

I don’t have any parts, but the Fisherman has many parts interchangeable with the Elto Lightwin. This picture is the model 4312 Weedlesss Fisherman of 1939. The model number will give us the exact year.

Thanks for the diagram! The first images are what my motor looks like…the last photo of the Evinrude Fisherman is much “newer” looking with the shrouding and has a completely different gas tank than what I need (mine has a squarish looking tank like in the top diagram) … but it is cool to see and now is on my “want” list haha!

Anybody out there fixing tanks or can you provide some advice on how to fix the large dent in the top? Do the “paintless” dent removal kits available work on these aluminum tanks? I do not want to polish this motor up…will be going on an old duck skiff .. want to completely keep the “patina” although obviously it needs to be tidied up a little bit!

Cheapest route would be to “bondo” the dents in the tank and paint
it silver. You could use the “torch and air pressure” method to get
some of the dents out, but those deep crease aren’t going to
go away. Another option would be to cut the bottom of the tank
out, pound the dents out, and weld the bottom back on.

                Prepare to be boarded!
