Greetings.
I just picked up a 1976 Evinrude Scout 12 motor. Model is ET12S S/N E0002015. To see the only documentation I can find please see http://shop2.evinrude.com/Index.aspx?s1 … 0&siteid=1
The motor shaft was frozen. I opened the housing on the propeller side and after some lubing and spinning with a pliers was able to free it up. But someone had been at this before and the bearing(or maybe just seal) on this side of the motor is in pretty bad shape. I think it will leak. The evinrude parts diagram does not even show the bearing/seal on the parts list.
Does anyone know any more on this or maybe can you educate me on generic ways of finding, removing and sizing bearings on a shaft. I have never had to do that before but was thinking it should be some standard sizes and maybe Napa could work.
Thanks in advance . Ralph
February 27, 2017 at 12:55 pm #53604I have no clue what’s in there. But generically speaking, standard bearings usually have a number stamped or etched on them. A good bearing supply house probably can help with that number. Otherwise, it’s time to get out the micrometers and measure. Again, with accurate measurements, the bearing guy probably can help.
February 27, 2017 at 2:07 pm #53606If you look up around 1986 motors they begin to break down the motor assy. parts. I have trolling motor parts. Most of mine are 24V, but what you need seems to be the same part numbers. If you will look into that & let me know I will be looking into my stock of parts. Be happy to send what I have, just pay shipping.

February 28, 2017 at 6:45 pm #53645I’ve got a service manual for a later version (pub ’93), and it seems to imply that the seals are the only replaceable parts. It basically says if the bearing in either assembly is worn, replace the assembly. Maybe that’s why the bearing doesn’t show up on a parts list ?
March 1, 2017 at 10:46 am #53669Thanks retiredoz. I pulled out the seal outermost to the propeller yerstreday. it is just a rubber seal with spring type. I the housing must act as the bearing. I see from looking up part 0393429 seal package (seems unavailable ) that it looks like you get two seals and what looks like a washer that must go between the seals and this probably acts as a bearing too. I guess you pack grease in there when putting it back together. Can you shed any light if that looks correct from the service manual. Any idea where I can find the seal. It looks like 3/4" ouside diam, and 3/8 inside diam. The inside has a plastic sleeve.
Thanks. Ralph -
