      So when “they” put the chain drive on they did away with vacuum switch? or possibly moved the vacuum switch

        That chain drive sprocket looks to me like it came from a electric start model L gravely two wheel lawn tractor. As far as a retro fit of a older (1951 to 1953 ) big twin I looked into this a few years ago with my 1953 Johnson 25. It did not have the rear threaded hole cast in block for the electric start recoil needed. I actually bought a complete1954 electric start Johnson power head, and a 1954 hood with the bulge for starter, Then I thought about it and realized I was just making a frankenstien motor and just destroying a nice original motor. So I did not do it. Much easier to just get a electric start later model.

          Yup, I’ve given up the idea! I’ll look for an electric start motor for the future!

            Thanks for the confirmation! I guess I’ll just look for another motor in the future, in the meantime get the one I have up and running!
