I know this isn’t an antique outboard but I figured I’d ask here first. I picked up a 1992 omc Hong Kong 2 hp motor and it ran like crap. So I took the carb apart and inside seems to be a "restrictor" plate of sorts. Has anybody worked on these and if I take it out will it give me more HP or just problems. Thanks in advance!

        Would that be a 3.3 horse motor? I can’t find a listing for a ’92 two horse.

Are you referring to #38 here in the diagram? If the motor doesn’t have a pressure tank attached, it’s too new for me to know what that item is but it sure does look like a power robbing restrictor of some kind.

Yes sir! Number 38 is the piece I’m referring to. The motor says 2.3 on the cover but I don’t know much about it.

2.3hp with restrictor, 3.3 without, maybe? Or, it could be there for a totally different reason, and run like crap without it. If you try running without it, be mindful of RPM’s so it doesn’t overrev.

If you have too many, AND not enough, you're a collector.

              I also have a similar motor (1997).

Removing the restrictor plate all the mechanicals are the same of 3.3, but I noticed in part lists the ignition box also is different from 2.3 to 3.3.

This problem don’t exist in the first Model Year ( 1991-1992) with breaker ignition circuit
