      I am working on a 1966 Evinrude 40hp, Model # 40653b. I am considering buying a replacement electric starter for it but need to make sure I get the right one. The one I have is a Prestolite and its working but seems weak. The Prestolite # I am coming up with is MGD-4102c from a online supplier. The # I am getting from my stash of old manuals is 278232. I would like to know if anyone could tell me if that OMC # is the replacement for the Prestolite # I have. Or perhaps there is a different part #. Thanks

        Not sure what that number is. The omc part # is 380239, but that is a Prestolite MGD 4102c

          I found some more of my old manuals, and it appears that the 278232 number is for an Autolite  brand starter. The 380239 is the number for the Prestolite. So, thanks for finding that for me. I will order a new starter tonight .
