When I bought this motor  8 month ago it  was loose. I started to work on it yesterday and it’s locked up. I took the plugs out and sprayed PB in the cylinders. Today I went  back to it and still won’t move. There is no cylinder head, only two plugs so I tried a brass rod in the holes and carefully taped on the tops of the pistons but no movement. I put a big crescent wrench on the nut on the flywheel, and still  no movement.  The flywheel moves a little but not with the nut (acts like the keyway is loose).

This nut like thing with two flat sides on the flywheel is a nut, right?  Can  it be taken off? It turns but not easy and didn’t want to force it until I knew for sure it was a nut.

On the other motor I have next to it (speedi twin) , the nut and the flywheel turn together.

This motor seemed to be in pretty good shape with no dents in the gas tank and pretty good  decals ( and had good compression). I sure would like to get it running.

Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

      Thanks,

      Lou

If you take the 3 screws out and remove the
rope pulley you will see the rest of the 2 flat
sided nut. This arrangement may remove the
flywheel by backing off this nut. As you
back off this flat sided nut, it pushes up on the
rope pulley separating the flywheel from the
crankshaft. However if the flywheel is really
on there you can easily destroy the rope pulley
so most don’t recommend it. Loose your brass
rod and get a wooden dowel to use for tapping
on the pistons. Keep adding solvents and
attempting to get it to move daily. It may take
some time. Applying heat to the cylinders may
speed up the process. I have made this fitting
from an old spark plug to use air to push
solvents in and around the pistons. Only
works on the ones above the ports unless
        you can block them.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Are you sure it’s not a gearcase problem?

Thanks, I don’t know if it’s a gear case problem. The gearcase has oil in it that is not contaminated. When I tap on the bottom cylinders it sounds different than when I tap on the top ones. The bottom ones ring like if the were at the bottom of the stroke or frozen. I’ll keep on soaking and taping every day.

Should be easy to drop the lower unit then see if it turns

Finally got it free and turning pretty good.

When I took the front cover off (over the carb) I found two little wires coming from under the flywheel. Are these for some sort of kill switch that I’m missing. There is a hole on the cover that could have had a kill switch.

                Thanks,

                Lou
