Hello all, I’m fixing up a ’55 Big Twin 25hp. It has a 5″ gear case extension (long shaft) which I hope to revert back to a standard shaft. I’ve removed the gear case extension and drive shaft both of which appear to be in great shape, and would happily trade them (and bolts) for a standard drive shaft in good shape.

You might want to sell the extension, long shaft, water tubes and shift extension as a set. There are people wanting to convert to long motor to fit on their 20” transom . That set up fits more than one model year motor. These are not to common and you might make some money selling and you can just buy a common standard drive shaft for not much money.
Thanks for that advice. It sounds like a good idea. I was going to just cut down the water tube but I’ll see how involved it is to remove it. The shift extender is just a brass longer version of the clamp so apparently it can be used with a standard shifter rod. Again, thanks for input.
The last one I did the water tube was a short extension too. Take a flash light and look up and see if you see a joint about 6 inches up. A long shaft set up I am just guessing might be worth $75.00 to $100.00 to the right person. eBay probably best place to sell.
iI found the shifter rod appears to be a standard sized one, and what makes it long enough to be used with the case extension is a brass extended length shift rod connector. So I’ll be looking for a standard length connector as well.
