Hello.  I recently acquired an Evinrude handifour.  I would not usually want to sell such a motor, but the rope sheave is annoyingly small and I would never see myself actually trying to use it on a boat because of how hard it is to pull over.  It was restored by the prior owner, and it seems to have great compression.  I have not thoroughly checked, but it has spark on at least 3 cylinders (testing with a spark plug that is borderline bad).  The carb appears to be of a cottage racer style, and the prop is also not origional and has a steeper pitch, but it does also have the original prop.   It’s in near perfect restored condition apart from the fuel tank dents (and lack of decals).  What’s it worth?

Can anybody else see the photos?  I could not see them until I logged in, but could see them afterwards.

Yes;  images are not visible until a person logs in.  They don’t have to be a “Paid Member” but they do have to log in to see the images in posts.

The 1937 model 4219 Handifour is very scarce model. It was made only in 1937. Its rated at 9.2 hp. Where are you located?

What its ultimately worth is what somebody is willing to pay for it. You’re saying that you’ve just recently acquired it. I’d suggest that you price it at what you paid and see if there’s any interest. If nobody wants it at that price, then you may have to consider that you overpaid. At that point, you can either lower the price or keep it. Personally, I’ve heard a ton of reasons for why people might sell a given motor, but I have to admit that concerns with the size of the rope sheave is a new one on me.

Its true that the Handifour was only built in 1937. That being said, it shouldn’t make it much more expensive than a really nice Lightfour of the same vintage. Most people wouldn’t want one, so there’s not much demand. I’ve got two of them, thus I’ve diluted the market to trend downward on them.

FWIW, the last one I got was given to me at no charge. It was missing a bunch of parts, but the Handifour is just a Lightfour with different cylinder castings and no shrouds so I scrounged enough Lightfour parts to make it complete and operational again. The cost of putting it together ended up being rather negligible, which will work out well for the next guy to own it cuz I can sell it to him cheap since I don’t have a lot of money invested in it.

I’m attaching an image of Handifour #371, which is the one I pieced together

He's livin' in his own private Idaho..... I hope to go out quietly in my sleep, like my grand-dad did..... and not screaming, like the passengers in his car...

I bought it at what I consider to be a low price(75 with the stand in a package deal if I remember)  and I figured I would give it a swing.  I’ve overpaid for a few motors in the past, so I won’t kick myself if I do not make anything on it(but it would be nice if I do).
