Hi everyone,
My son has bought a project in the form of the engine in the title. It does not have the recoil start cowl and parts.Did these come with them as an added extra? It has the piece bolted to the flywheel to pull start and I can see the mounting points on the fuel tank for the recoil cover. Also, the carb is in a bad way,it is a Amal but can another more modern carb be fitted? Thanks in advance.
August 1, 2022 at 10:37 am #263885OK, I don’t recommend that model number. So, have another look at the tag or post a picture of the engine.
August 1, 2022 at 11:21 am #26389649B6 is listed as a 1969 4hp. Amal carburetor??? Where was this motor made? Doesn’t sound like a USA motor.
August 1, 2022 at 12:23 pm #263900Yes it’s a 1969 4hp for the European market made in Belgium and they installed an Amal carb, hence the reason for the question on using a different carb .

August 3, 2022 at 8:05 pm #263985OK, well that is a unique outboard. Looks like it was designed for some particular overseas market. The flywheel is strange, what does the recoil starter look like? Do you still have it? The conventional top mounted OMC recoils won’t work on that flywheel.
Don’t know what is up with that strange carburetor. Again, this must have been designed for a very particular market, perhaps some commercial use. You might be able to get one of the newer 4hp carburetors to fit on there, but the carbs from that era wont work due to the choke linkage. Why is it that you want to replace that carb? It looks pretty simple. Have you had it apart? Don’t know where you would get gaskets/orings for it though.
I guess we can still see/learn something new everyday….August 4, 2022 at 1:02 am #263989I figured that strange flywheel was actually a rope sheave bolted onto a possibly conventional flywheel (???)
