Yesterday Bombardier Recreation Products BuRP announced the end of life for Evinrude Outboards. Evinrude outboards will no longer be manufactured after 113 years. Evinrude is dead long live Evinrude.
May 28, 2020 at 5:35 pm #204256It took a long time but the Japanese have won the war.
May 28, 2020 at 9:05 pm #204279Very sad indeed. Hopefully, they will still supply parts for a while.
May 28, 2020 at 10:08 pm #204282New member here just this evening. Met with sad news on the 3rd post I read of my first day. Sure hate hearing this.
I got a few I have had a long time but can always use a few more going into retirement.
May 28, 2020 at 11:28 pm #204288I am 70 and I have 13 OMC products in the garage…all oldies mid-50 to early 70s, a 3.9 and a 4.0 Merc and my 2005 ETEC 75hp……should not need any more Mercury gear for a while.

May 29, 2020 at 6:51 am #204290I have a 2017 Etec 115 on my fishing boat. I feel I was left out in the rain. Also I noticed that Evinrude dealers were far and few as where mercury dealers are like dollar stores. Every corner. I feel bad for the small Marinas that were Evinrude only. I think that the Etec is a good product, I wonder where the ball was dropped.?
May 29, 2020 at 7:32 am #204292greed killed it , bad management …has anyone seen ETEC Evinrude ads on TV ??..not me and I live in the home office province of BRP recreational products. HQ..as a matter of fact not to many Ski-Doo or Sea-Doo ads either …..
they make subway cars and trains but how long will that last…
they killed off the C Series jet plane and gave it to Airbus loosing billions and the last Pres. left with 17 millions … a much discussed topic around here because the Gov. handed them millions to see a first class company skinned to the bones.
financials and…competition killed the C Series just like the Arrow….read and weep 🙁

May 29, 2020 at 8:29 am #204300Seems like BRP made many of the mistakes that OMC did. Buying up boat companies to lock in outboard sales, lack of advertising, etc. The original OMC bankruptcy left so many dealers and owners stranded, resulting in understandable resentment for the brand. So, even if the newer engines were the best ever, existing resentment would not be easily overcome. That being said, it appears as though BRP didn’t even make a reasonable attempt to market Evinrude in a way that might help overcome the dealer/owner resentment. Evinrude’s decision to avoid the four stroke band wagon probably didn’t help either. I am still a believer in two stroke technology, but the four stroke stuff has been successfully marketed to the consumers by Evinrude’s competition.
Admittedly, I have not kept up with the newer engines technically. But, they appear somewhat “over-engineered”, which usually results in lower reliability and more difficult service procedures.
Evinrude really needed a big cash investment to make needed engineering and marketing improvements, and BRP has given up, or perhaps does not have the cash needed. This is a sad day indeed, am hoping the lucrative parts business will not be given up on…. -
