I AM RESTORING A ROWBOAT MOTOR. IT WAS ORIGINALLY PAINTED GREY. I AM WONDERING IF ANYONE KNOWS THE EXACT COLOR? CAN ANYONE RECOMEND A GOOD PRIMER AND PAINT. I WOULD LIKE IT TO BE GLOSSY.
I AM ALSO LOOKING FOR A FEW PARTS IF ANYONE HAS ANY. I NEED THE MUFFLER CAN, THE HANDLE ON THE FLYWHEEL AND A BRASS WATER PIPE NIPPLE.THANX

And I’m amazed – yours has the accessory tilt bracket just like the one I posted pics of a couple weeks ago.
December 28, 2016 at 12:12 am #49830It is my personal opinion, but I would do my best to see if it will run before doing anything cosmetically to the motor…
It is my experience and that of many others that they generally will run but, I(we) have found that they most always need the water pump rebuilt, as well as the upper and lower crank case bushings replaced, and in the lower unit the prop shaft tends to have worn out the prop shaft bushing, then you have the adjustment screw that is used to set proper gear lash.As for proper color, Machine Gray would probably be the best bet for authenticity.
Yours has the mag, so that needs looked over, the condenser is probably shot, although at this time I do not remember the value but you can place a modern one in there and be just fine, that is of course assuming the coil is good, which would not generally surprise me.Regards

This motor did not have spark but the spark wire was rusted out where it connects to the magneto. The coil might be good. I have disassembled the motor and have begun cleaning it up. I plan on restoring it for looks if it won’t run.
This motor has been well cared for or restored at some point in the past. The piston and cylinder are in great shape. I will check the bushings but I could use a repair manual. Muffler can is supposed to have holes…
Replace your plug wire and check the condenser, might have to recharge the magnets on the flywheel…
I can assure you, if the piston and cylinder look that good, it will run.
Do you know any machinist/toolmakers in your area? If not, might want to find one, as they will be vital to resurrecting this wonderful motor.
Do you have a picture of the top of the flywheel? specifically the location for the starter knob.Where are you located, geographically?
