Getting close to starting my 46 speedifour. The original plugs were Champion 5-M and no longer available. Any suggestions?

The “old outboard book” recommends D9J for a replacement.
I just ordered some on Ebay the other day, but think they were
D9, which I presume is okay.

If I remember correctly, the “J” plugs have the short tab over the electrode, which supposedly helps keep the plug from fouling. Either will work, but my luck with Champion plugs ran out a number of years ago and I switched to NGK plugs, specifically the AB-7 or AB-6 which is a little hotter. Also I was told a number of years ago the Evinrudes of those years like a closer gap.

I run the NGK’s in my Speeditwin, SpeediFour and Big Four.

Not sure. I only ran it briefly several times and still need to check out the water lines and deal with a gas leak.
