      Hello
      Newbie here
I mixed my gas rich by mistake about 30 or so to 1. Shows 50 t0 1 is correct. Will that keep motor from starting and running? Motor hits and has run tiny bit on starter fluid. Impeller pumps. This has been a reliable old motor just kind shy about messing with it till I get some comments. I also am trying to start in a barrel that covers the whole shaft portion of the motor. Fuel Pump shoots gas when disconnected when rope is pulled. Plugs are new from last year year. Gas is getting to fuel bowl. Float is old and has what appears to be shellac on it. Float and needle valve are free and seem to be working.. I have read a lot about this motor about these motors and these were my actions and observations. Carb kits are cheap but not sure that is problem. Motor use to start on 1 or 2 pulls. But went a while with out running it except in a barrel.
Your comments would be greatly appreciated. Maybe a small punch list.

Do want to bother anyone. I am interested in learning.
      Many Thanks ,
      Piddler

The 9.5hp was not introduced until 1964, post the model number and we can tell you the year….Might be handy for parts look up…
A slightly/fuel mix like you have described will not keep this engine from starting and running OK, but please be sure your fuel supply is fresh and free of water….Fuel doesn’t last long these days. You mention the engine will run a bit on starting fluid… So, why not try squirting a bit of your fuel/oil mix down the carb throat to see if the engine will fire briefly. If the engine fires for a few seconds when the carb is primed this way, then you have some sort of fuel system problem… You mention that fuel squirts from the outlet side of the fuel pump when the bulb is primed, but this doesn’t mean the fuel pump is working. Although it should fire for a minute or so on just the fuel fed to the carburetor by priming the bulb. How do you know the fuel is getting into the carb bowl? Try removing the hex carb screw and pumping the bulb, fuel should dribble out of that hole if it is filling the bowl. It sounds like you have had the carburetor apart, was it dirty/gummy inside? I would remove the carb main fixed jet, which is behind the drain hex screw…This jet is difficult to remove without the proper jet screwdriver, you can cause damage/debris trying to get it out with a conventional screw driver…You may want to try passing a small diameter pipe cleaner or wire through the jet to open it up…Be very careful, the hole is very small, you don’t want to enlarge it with something that is too big. Once the hole in the jet is open, you could soak the carb bowl in strong cleaner overnight (put the plug back in), in an attempt to clean the jet thoroughly….
Let us know what you find after doing these basic inspections…

running is a barrel will suffocate it after a while unless you blow the fumes away.. they sit real low and suck in the fumes. just give it a blast on the water .

If you have too many, AND not enough, you're a collector.
