      Hi all,

I have a 1963 9.8 HP Mercury 110 that I am trying to get going. Over the weekend, I decided to check the plugs, clean out the carb and change the lower unit oil. When I went to hook up the fuel tank (I have many Merc tanks kicking around) it was only then I noticed that the fuel connector on the motor is smaller than the "standard" Merc connector. A quick bit of research and I soon discovered that this smaller connector was only used for a few years on the lower HP models. (When I got the motor there was no tank that came with it.)

So my question is this….I have a three gallon fuel tank from a 5 HP 1957 Firestone outboard….and it fits. (or at least it seems to) Does anyone know if the Firestone/Scott fuel connectors are really compatible with that particular Mercury? It has the same twist lock connector….

      Thanks!

I believe they are. I had a series of adaptors I made to run various brands on the two Evinrude tanks I kept by our test tank. Hook it up and see if it works by using the primer pump. If it doesn’t leak, you’re home free. . . 😀

I kind of figured that! Just needed another opinion! Thanks!

I know it works the other way around (the small Merc fitting works just dandy on the Scott/Firestones). I thought the Merc motor fitting was usually recessed too deeply to use the Scott fitting.

Yeah, I have also found the Merc fitting works on Scotts. I now have a Scott fitting also, but no Merc for it to fit! My Scott fitting is kind of big in diameter and makes me wonder whether it would fit though a Merc lower cowl.

              Long live American manufacturing!

Check out the ‘Leads For Motors’ section here. There’s a Gold Top S/A listed with a small Merc connector on it.
