I purchased a Chinese made equivalent of the OMC 0378103 Universal puller to pull flywheels off of magnetos. The bolts they sent stripped and I sent it back for a refund. Is the BRP OEM 0378103 version better quality with better grade bolts? Or should I just get a Universal puller from Amazon?  Thanks!

these work ok  for me…   cheaper that OEM

the inverted nylon lock nuts  maintain a perfect depth to screw in the fw   and I don’t loose the bolts 🙂

You can always buy the cheap puller and buy good quality bolts at the hardware store. A few good grade 5 bolts should not be too expensive.

I use the same puller as crosbyman has pictured and as Gary noted, I bought some Grade 8 bolts at the hardware store.   Always worked great for me and I’ve had a couple flywheels that were WAY stuck.

I own the OMC/BRP flywheel puller, and it was money well spent. Every component is top quality and well designed with some unique components.

I own the OMC product also. Bolts supplied with it are great!  I smile every time I use this tool!

I had a couple RD model 1950s 35 HP Johnsons that my cheapie bolt puller wouldn’t budge the flywheels on, even with good, hardened bolts (I didn’t strip any).  At the advice of the guys here, I bought the OMC puller, and, don’t ask me what the big diifference was, but that OMC puller took the stubborn flywheels right off.  If you do a websearch on the puller part number, you will find several prices.

FYI:  I find using a 1/2 inch drive impact wrench (air or electric) on the puller’s center bolt easily pops the flywheels free and you don’t have to hold them while tightening that center puller bolt.

1/2 inch sounds  big    I always use my Craftsman 1/4 impact driver using  3/8 inch  socket drive adapter…but most of my  work is on  are below 15hp engines.

Well, if you plan to work on alot of OMC classics, then the true OMC puller is a must.  Sure, the universal stuff might work alot of the times, but there will always be one that refuses to budge, breaks the bolts, shoots pieces all over.
