      Hello to all;
      Main motor died suddenly on the lake yesterday after running a while, wouldn’t make a single pop after that. Cheapie light-up spark tester shows spark as low and about even on all four.

      Pic is of it putting along decently, idled down; 2 MPH. A little lumpy, but we were at about 5,500′ elevation.

      Any other suggestions to check will be appreciated. The ignition can’t have 100 hours on it since replacement, however, the contact faces of the points never did line up right, out of the box. I’m gonna toss ’em, even though I struggled to get them timed right on my ’67 80 hp Evinrude.

      The other thing to factor in is my fuel lines might (do) leak, and I’ll be replacing all four fittings, on both hoses, asap. Bummer, since these are less than a year old, and supposedly alcohol compliant. My old metal tanks sealed perfectly after I worked on ’em, until I plugged the hoses in, when they both got drippy.

      After the main motor quit, we attempted to use the ’79 15 hp, but that ran poorly. I squeezed the pickle, and that helped. I had to squeeze it every few seconds, to get back to the dock. I’ll probably replace the fuel pump diaphragm as well, even if the leaky fuel fittings weren’t helping. I did a websearch for ethanol-free gas in CA; there are a total of two places, both hundreds of miles away.

      I don’t think fuel delivery was the problem on the 80 hp though, as no amount of pickle squeezing made any difference. Plenty of gas in the carb.
      Still a beautiful day, and my ’69 Lund 19′ aluminum project boat did really well, for the first time on the lake since work.
      Any suggestions welcome.
      Happy motoring!
      Alan
