Hello everyone, Ive recently acquired a Gale built hiawatha 5hp i believe its a 1953 model. i threw some new coils in it cleaned the carb and the fuel tank. cleaned and set the points and fired it up. runs real good but it isnt pumping any water. my question is how can i modify a johnson/evinrude impeller to work.

      thanks. sam

So, is this a neutral-clutch model?  If so, a common J/E 5.5 impeller will work by reaming the center hole to fit the drive shaft.

Rotor-style (wobbler) impellers for the non-clutch model is made by one of our members, Brian Wilcox.

Hey there thanks for the response. It has the Neutral switch so I will just use a 5.5 impeller like you said

I used the Sierra 18-3001 in my 53 Hiawatha with the neutral shift.
Can’t remember, but presume I reamed out the center hole.

            Prepare to be boarded!
