What is the best soak for these things? I’ve tried gas, PB Blaster and rust remover. Is there a ball in them… should I hear it rattle when it is clean?

If you are talking about the Early 2 line Pressure Tanks yes there is a check valve Disc above the Screen. Clean or soak it with Lacquer Thinner, usually works fine. When clean you can hear it tick in tube.

In a when-all-else-fails situation, poke a pin or needle through the screen to unseat the stuck disc. Then soak in carb cleaner to remove the sticky stuff.

I turn mine upside down in the vise (gently) and fill the screen area with Cyclo carb cleaner.Put a rag beneath the pipe to catch the crud.Works every time.I also have many new ones available as well
