I recently purchased a used Johnson HA15 carb from Doug Penn and was happy to find he through in a set of nos carb gaskets for it as well. They seal the carb to the block, intake, cooling passages and are made of .020 stiff black material w/white threads thru them. I would like to make a few extra sets as long as I have them and was wondering what would be the next best thing to that type of material as I haven’t been able to find that type. I have felpro karropak#3045 tan fiber sheet 1/64",1/32",and 1/16" for sealing against oil, coolant, and gasoline but i’m not sure its usable for this application? Maybe with some gasket maker sealer #4 brushed thinly on them they would work if I used the felpro fiber material? Any suggestions for other gasket material that would be passable to make these?

For exhaust gasket stock you probably want to go to McMaster Carr or similar industrial
supply houses.Product Data Sheet will give temperature range that each material is suited for.
LouisSeptember 17, 2015 at 8:47 pm #24107I run to Auto Zone and buy the black/gray quasi-rubberized gasket paper. Used it in powerhead base gaskets…also…wait for it…a 1947 Johnson HD25 exhaust.
Good luck!

September 17, 2015 at 10:58 pm #24116I have some of that black rubber/paper gasket material also, just not in the right thickness. I’ve traced out the set of nos gaskets onto the felpro karrapak material just to have them as patterns for if I come across the correct gasket material for this purpose. If anyone needs a set of gasket patterns for the carb/intake to block on a Johnson HA-15 give me a shout and i’ll send you a set.
