I have two Johnson 3-hp outboards,1951 and 1952. What is the proper oil for the gearcase? The service manual (1968) for the 3-hp states OMC Type “C,” but what is the equivalent to this today?

It (1968) says Type C because that is what OMC made then. In 1951-52 they specified “hypoid oil”. Forget all that and just use common 80-90 wt outboard gear oil. Available ‘most everywhere.
