      David-
I, too, have a couple of West Bends, and I agree with the others that they are weird and wonderful motors. I heard a lot of crap from a sometimes obnoxious club member when I started restoring one but the day I brought it to a meet, bolted it to a boat, pulled it over and zipped across the lake, a lot of the guys were surprised at how well they run. The mystical Select-o-matic feature is the stuff of legend and laughs when we talk about our first Songo River run, where we suggested a 3-5hp motor limit : )

Measure your remaining shark. I may have something for you.

Very cool motor. I wish I could find one of those. I’ve never seen one in my neck of the woods.

          David,

My remaining Shark is the same size! 😀 If you want to part with it, I will not turn it down. Let me know what you need for it and I will get it some Tuesday night this winter maybe!

          Thanks again,
          David

David B – Tonight I looked through 3 binders of West Bend stuff and couldn’t find a nice clear wiring diagram for your motor – there are just bits here & there in the early 60s Service Manual and the Service Bulletins. (I did confirm that, unless someone has changed it, the 1960 25hp Model 2502 was positive ground when it left the factory.)

The best thing I could find to assist you with the overall wiring harness is the 1960 Remote Control Installation Instructions – you’ll need to read through it since there is a lot of "if you have X do the following, if you have Y…." Here is a link to the PDF of it:

Regarding the Lucite shark, there was another thread where a member made a pretty acceptable Evinrude badge with stuff from a hobby shop. These sharks would be a great project to try and I don’t think anywhere near as complex as that badge. Our local hobby shop is a mob-scene from now through Christmas, but when things calm down I’ll look into what would be involved. They are always broken, missing a head or fin – the 55+ year old plastic is so fragile, I think just blowing on the photo of the one David K is sending you could break it!

                Art,

Thanks so much for the West Bend info. This should be what I need to get wired up!

And I agree that the Lucite emblems are fragile, so I will be super careful when I get if from David K in person. I will not trust the post office with that.

Wannabe – holy cow, where did you find that? I spent a couple of hours looking through the WB manuals and Service Bulletins from 1959-64 and couldn’t find any wiring diagrams for the 2502. Just curious if I missed it or something is missing from the WB documentation I have? Or is it something aftermarket?

                      Wannabe,

Thanks for that. With the instructions for the remote controls from Art, and this from you, I will be styling.

                      Thanks again,

                      David

Once I get it, I can scan it and send you a copy.
