Like Greg, I use 847 for almost everything. I have also heard good things about the ‘high-tack’ sealant.

          quote Phil B:

A guy in to (formerly local) Mercury dealer parts department once said Permetex “High Tack” was as good as the Mercury and OMC gasket sealers

Probably is. But one of the original poster’s requirements was the messiness. Permatex is nasty to work with, hard to get off your hands, and shows like crazy on the finished motor, making it look like a shade tree has been working on it. A bit of rubbing alcohol cleans up after the OMC.

The high tack from permatex is great stuff but the strings that come off it get all over everything. The OMC and Merc sealers do not do that.

A friendly Mercury dealer gave me some Perfect Seal in a rattle can cap, so I’m trying it. It does seem less messy than Permatex. The 847 doesn’t seem readily available locally, so I will order some. Appreciate all the thoughts on this.
