I find the China bike story interesting because back in 1964 I bought a 10 speed 27 x 1-1/4 inch tire racer bike that I didn’t realize was made in China. It had a brand name "Swishen Bike Works" (a take on Schwinn bikes I suppose). Well that bike got me thru Univ of Fla (parking an issue there) and much biking miles, and several tire and brake pads later (that’s all I replaced) I still have it and use it regular and it hasn’t fallen apart and the chrome is still good. I was surprised it came with: a well made coupling frame, center pull brakes, derailleur from Japan, rims from France knurled rim edge for wet stopping, 3 piece pedal assembly, tires from England. A bike from many countries. I suppose nowadays bikes from China are not as good.
