I received mine sometime in mid-January.

      George,

It sounds like you’ve got some good feedback here.

I think asking a chapter member to take responsibility for reporting membership status is a good idea. I don’t think asking the president to take on that additional responsibility  (as a previous poster recommended) is a good idea. I am a chapter president and I do enough already. It’s nearly impossible to get others to share in the duties of running the chapter sometimes. I’d prefer to get more people involved so more of us have a stake in the success or failure of our enterprise. Most organizations tend to be run by a small group of people. What I mean by that is the same group of people tend to do the work while the majority just show up and expect things to be ready and rolling for them. But when you ask them to step up and organize food or another task they balk and say, “i’m too busy” or “ i’m not really good at that”.

It will be an uphill battle and we’ve simply got to expect attrition and shrinking of our membership. Younger people simply don’t put a value in clubs and organizations as previous generations did. That said, we’ve got to do all we can to ensure the survivability of our club but with the realistic expectation that it simply will be a smaller group.

        Opposed Twin,

I haven’t closely monitored this discussion after its first week of being posted, but, your response caught my eye. I too am a chapter president and I can concur I have plenty to do. What the Council is trying to do is assign some responsibilities to chapter presidents and they in turn delegate those to members in their chapter they know are qualified and will follow through. If we spread the work load to  many people, the personal burden is light.

One of the things we (the Council) don’t have a grip on is the level of talent within our organization. Hopefully chapter presidents do. I have a good idea of the talent within my Florida Chapter, so when it comes time for a specific project, I know who to go to. Certainly within the membership of AOMCI we have people with backgrounds in website development and management, but we, the Council, don’t have knowledge of those. So what we are trying to do is maintain dialogue with chapter presidents through our zoom meetings, and find those talents. We are a volunteer based organization, and we need people with talents to step up and help us become a better organization, —but, we need to know who they are!

        George
