The black gates hose does not have the inner barrier liner, at least for now anyway.
Steve, I’m with you on the ”pliable” grey Merc hose.. It was good stuff back in the day. We used it for many applications. I’m not sure what has caused it to flake apart on the inside. It may be the fuel, or the age of the hose it’s self.
The new grey Mercury fuel line now has blue printing on it, as opposed to red print on the old stuff. The new generation hose is good stuff, but not as pliable as it used to be.

Dont get mad or sad! Take this crap back where you got it and demand a refund! I bought a 50′ roll of Sierra’s new improved fuel line earlier in the summer. The first time I used a piece it failed within an hour or two for my customer. I took back the whole roll. They warrantied it. Said the new stuff wasn’t suppose to do this. I’m not trying it again! Just go Gates hose from now on. It turns black in your hands down the road from UV, but that is just a good indicator to change it out. Just my experience. This includes Walmart, Seasense, Attwood, etc. it’s all CRAP! Only use OEM primer bulbs. IMHO

A while back, the thin, smooth, very flexible silicone rubber lines were popular. I found that these are OK as long as you took care not to let them kink anywhere – winding excess hose too tight on the tank or arouns a corner onthe way to the motor can easily create a fuel-starving kink.
