Looks like its a 1928 Fleetwin having an unusually nice gas tank. I would suggest just a cleaning of the motor, servicing the fuel, ignition, and gear case, to get it running again, preserving the original decal.

May 2, 2025 at 12:37 pm #296054Thanks Tubs. So would you recommend shooting a clear coat over the existing decal to preserve?

May 2, 2025 at 10:22 pm #296073Run your finger over the decal. If it flakes off, a clear coat might help. I think you’ll find that what remains is really on there. If that is a the case I wouldn’t do anything but be mindful of it. If the fuel was removed after it was run last, it wont take much to clean the tank. If not, its more difficult to clean the tank while protecting the decal. The magneto was used on several other models. Points will need a cleaning and I suspect it could use some new plug wires. Coil should still be good. Its been my experience that, more that half the time, these old condensers are still good. Not much to the carburetor. Should take a look inside to check the condition of the float and give it cleaning if necessary. Clean out the gear case. John Deere Corn Head Grease or Lubriplate 105 are two of the more common substitutes for the grease that is no longer available. I bet the gear case will have some water in it. If its mostly water, that really does a number on the gears. See the holes in the prop? That is the water pump.

May 3, 2025 at 11:30 pm #296102Good evening. 2 quick questions;
- Why does this motor have “DEMONSTRATOR” stamped on the flywheel and the lower unit? (see Picts to follow)
- What is the 2 prong electrical connector for on the manual throttle? (Pict to follow)
Thanks!

May 4, 2025 at 12:22 am #296108Those are some very unusual features. Have you investigated the wiring to the connector? My guess that it enabled shutting down the motor from a remote location using a “plug-in” extension cord. We will be interested to hear opinions about “demonstrator” markings.
