Great video. That did run sweet! Hopefully I have good luck with getting mine to run and idle that well.

May 9, 2017 at 11:12 am #57340Garry, I’d love to learn more about the oil injected V4 motors that are mentioned at the bottom of the serial # list… I don’t want to hijack this thread though.. maybe you could start a new one ? I have heard of these motors and wondered if any pictures have survived ?
It amazes me how many times I see ”new technology” on modern outboards and think ”hey, they used that way back when on such and such a motor”. Anything from replaceable prop hubs to the dual line pressure fuel system, the same basic idea used on a
Merc V6 oil injection system. Pretty cool when you think about it.May 9, 2017 at 6:00 pm #57359The oil injection system survived and was used in the V-4 engine in the "Sweet Sixteen" fiberglas boats OMC produced. Many auto companies were working on fuel injection in the mid 1950. I owned a fully injected VW Square Bace in later years. As they aged, the 90 PSI carried in the fuel lines caused many fires as age caused leaks where they were subject to heat & vibration.
It was long known that much fuel was waisted on two cycle outboards because of having the bypass port and the exhaust port open at the same time. GM’s two cycle diesels proved fuel injection could make them efficient. I will work up a report for our members on the Dockside Chat. Perhaps it should go toward an Antique Outboarder article. . . 🙂
