I saved this from being donated to the scrap yard from a friend. The nameplate is scratched off, no other markings. I really want to rebuild and get it back into the water but I don’t know where to start work parts. Any help with what the maker could be would be extremely helpful. Thank you very much
May 27, 2021 at 8:55 am #239063Search for Scott made models from the mid to late 50’s would be my guess.
Perhaps the 3.6 hp models.Prepare to be boarded!
May 27, 2021 at 9:23 am #239066What do you want it to be? It was made for may years 1940’s- 1960’s. For sure, it is a Scott-Atwater, renamed Scott or Scott McCulloch 1958-63, then McCulloch 1964-68. Also sold as Firestone, Elgin and Wizard. It appears the original color was white, which would put it in the McCulloch era. Yep, 3.6hp, although I think the fudged a bit on that sometimes, but really still the old 3.6hp.
The main difference was some had gearshift, most did not.
They are very good running motors.
May 27, 2021 at 10:10 am #239069Thank you Very much for your help..I have never even heard of Scott motor before.I thought maybe that was the name of the resort or cabins it probably came from here in Michigan. I was thinking Evinrude or Mercury just because that is the names I really only know. .. where would I go about getting parts for this?? Should I search for 60’s Scott? Or McCulloch… This is the badge on it.
May 27, 2021 at 11:04 am #239072Scott-Atwater was made in Minneapolis, MN. McCulloch was of chainsaw fame, and the guy that brought the London Bridge to America. Anyhoo, try Laings Outboard service. Google them.

Check the gearbox for grease. The grease you use on this is something like John Deere cornhead grease or some other thin grease. The spark plug would be a Champion H10J gapped at 0.035″. They do have a water pump rotor but usually never have to change these. Fuel/oil ratio is 16/1 or 8 ounces oil to 1 gallon gas.
