I am looking at picking up this motor for parts or possible restore. It has it’s issues and I am trying to figure out what this battery ignition is on the front. I haven’t seen one like this and I am wondering if it is something cobbled together from a couple different motors.

March 4, 2019 at 11:25 am #170314The ignition is factory. What you have is an Elto outboard.
The ignition timers were made by Atwater Kent and when set properly are fantastic ignition systems.
What are the numbers on the tag on the transom clamp? They will be the model and serial number.March 4, 2019 at 11:53 am #170316I wasn’t sure. I have a ruddertwin and the timer is great but that one looked a little different with the rounded lever and button on the end. I will get the numbers up later today if I can get them from the person holding this for me.
March 6, 2019 at 9:16 pm #170465I have the serial number on the front tag now. It reads 4240551. I tried google but no luck. Anybody out there know what this one is. I looked in the Outboard Book I have, which is an older edition and if I am reading it right it skips right over 4240.
March 6, 2019 at 10:14 pm #170473It’s a ’32 – ’33 5.8 hp Model 424, serial number 0551. (If it were an 8 digit number, the first four would be the model number.)

March 7, 2019 at 12:49 am #170485I swear Tubs must have one of every outboard Evinrude ever built – and all beautifully restored . . .

March 7, 2019 at 6:00 am #170496Thank you! That was the picture I was looking for. That timer looked different than I had seen before. I looked all over the net for a picture showing that.
Also, thanks for helping me understand those numbers. I started thinking it might have been just the first three but I wasn’t sure.March 7, 2019 at 10:40 am #170508A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

March 7, 2019 at 11:03 am #170510Well, here is the deal with this one. It is cheap enough $80, but it is locked up. I am hoping with patience I can get it free. My thoughts were that the other parts might be worth that if I don’t. I know I have spent more than that on fishing trips that yielded nothing so what the heck….Plus I just wanted to see that ignition setup.
