      I’m rebuilding the carb on a 1954 7.5hp Evinrude.

I cannot get the float bowl off. Will. Not. Budge.

Soaked in a dip-can of carburetor cleaner for 24 hours, hoping it would soften the gasket. Nope.

Tried man-handling it off wearing an oven mitt for safety. Nope.

Reluctant to strike it or put some kind of vice on it, but it might come to that.

      Any clever tricks?

Sorry, posting at 3am leads to poor terminology. It’s the *glass* bowl that’s stuck. Nothing to do with the float.

I tap them lightly with something like the handle end of a screwdriver. Tap lightly though!

Air hose perhaps, but safety precautions!
Hair dryers work wonders in the garage,
but don’t let your wife see you sneak it
            out there!

            Prepare to be boarded!

Fill with oil and apply grease gun? Gently, gently, safety everything. Good luck. 🙄

I got one loose a year ago by tapping with a rubber mallet after everything else failed – I know I ran the risk of breaking it, but I have a couple parts motors to replace it from. Fortunately, that glass is thick and the shape adds to the strength too.

                  Grunt… twist… grunt…. *Crack* *tinkle*

Sigh. Looks like I’m diving into the parts bin.

Insult to injury? The gasket came out with no resistance once the bowl was gone.

Maybe the filter mount is bent/out of round. Check it and see before you stuff another glass nowl into that one.

I guess it’s too late to suggest immersing it in hot water to loosen it up.
