I’m wondering if anyone knows of a way to find the pitch of a prop with every day tools

        I checked this : http://propellerhub.com/measuring-pitch.html

By the time my eyes finished glazing over I decided I’d need a new definition of ‘everyday tools’ ,

Take your prop down to a prop shop. They will have a special tool which measures the pitch and rake of the blades.

That’s a cool reading I’m going to have to print that out to go over. I love building tools.

I center the prop on a turn table (Lazy Susan) and use a single rod. Starting at ⅔ the prop radius a quarter inch from the trailing edge of the blade. I measure the rod drop when turning the prop exactly 30 degrees. Multiply that measurement by 12 and you have the pitch.

The rod holder is fastened from a 1" pipe flange base mouthed on a piece of plywood for stability. A PVC pipe adaptor is screwed in and PVC pipe goes up to an elbow with a short length of PVC with a ¼" vertical hole near the end. The rod I used was a quarter inch hard wood dowel pointed with a pencil sharpener.

For small props you can use 15 degrees, but then multiply by 24.
