I have painted my shroud with the white and the bronze. Then I see other pictures of these motors with different paint patterns. Where the white and the bronze are painted in different spots. Now I am not sure what is correct.

Can someone enlighten me with what the shroud is supposed to look like?
      Thank you
      Bill

I have not finished my RDE-19C yet but some progress is being made.
lower unit is completely rebuilt and new decals are on hand.
I got the automotive paint to match from NAPA.
Can’t wait to get this gem purring again !!!

looking forward to seeing photos of yours after you get it done.

Damn it! I had already painted it just the opposite way!! Don’t know what I was thinking.

                You were thinking 1957. 😯

It’s not hard to do if you don’t have a ‘before’ photo handy for reference.

Just be glad the mis-paint scheme is on an outboard. I have seen complete cars where folks painted them wrong based on sales brochures of cars that were NEVER manufactured. They never looked up the production color codes…..There are even some AOMCI folks who paint motors in wrong color combos, knowingly, and claim authenticity. I just smile and walk away. Why bother? Of course the outboards and cars could be called water/street rods!

I have a 1957 18 hp that has a 1958 color scheme on the cowling. The decal is also in cursive rather than block letters. On closer inspection, you can see that it was repainted many years ago based on the fading. I was told that some dealers did that in order to make leftover 1957’s appear to be 1958’s. I can’t believe a dealer would do such a thing. 🙂

BTW, Holiday Bronze is the color and it is different for 1956, 1957 and 1958 so be sure to get the correct color. What were they thinking?

😀 Just to muddy the waters a bit, This is actually an RJE-18. I think dealers would repaint a motor taken in trade to make it look more like the then current ones. I have 3 RDs that show old repaints of that type.

Get some 57 decals and you are all set.
