OLCAH,
There must be a reason for the penny. I can’t figure it out.

December 8, 2016 at 3:44 pm #48851Only problem is if you have to use extreme pressure with the puller which I did that time, you can extrude the aluminum penny into the center hole of the shaft. Then you have to dig the aluminum out.

I thought the "new" pennies were copper plated zink. on the other hand , I’m easily confused. I thought the RD-19 Johnson was built in 1957. . . ❓

December 9, 2016 at 2:00 am #48898Speaking of repaint jobs, there are some old Champions out there that got repainted for free when taken back to the factory for repair. My Dad bought a model 1J new (they were painted silver), and, took it to the factory when it needed repairs he couldn’t figure out, since we lived close to it. In the mid-1950s, I remember going with Dad to the factory which was in a leased building at Twin City Arsenal (a large government ammunition manufacturing complex north of St. Paul). Had to drive through a security check to get there. When he picked it up, it had been repaired, and, without asking him, it had been repainted the then-current Champion blue, complete with all new decals! My Dad was really happy about that because it looked so nice! I still have that motor.

DaveBack when service was service and manufacturers cared about their customers. That’s a good story. ☺
