Hello all, I’m new here and new to the vintage outboard world. I just aquired an old outboard that needs some love. I’m having a hard time identifying it though. I think it’s a 1955 Johnson Seahorse QD16 10 hp. There are no markings that I can tell anywhere, except for a small chrome disc that seems to have the seahorse symbol and the numbers 1283079. Any ideas here? Thanks

September 7, 2016 at 11:11 pm #43559I don’t really know how to post pictures. I’m only accessing this forum from my phone
September 7, 2016 at 11:20 pm #43561Serial number 1,283,079 indeed is a 1955. So if you are sure it is a 10 hp, yes it is a QD-16
September 7, 2016 at 11:29 pm #43563How exactly do I confirm it is a 10 hp? My claim is purely based off the previous owner and I know he wasn’t the original owner
September 7, 2016 at 11:37 pm #43565Do a Google search for "1955 Johnson QD-16" and look at some of the images which pop up.

The guy I got it from thought it may have been a 59. But after looking for several hours now I think it’s a 55 based off pictures and layout drawings
September 7, 2016 at 11:58 pm #43568Assuming this is in fact a 1955 QD-16, is this a good motor? There are a few things I know I need, but don’t really know where to get them.
Such as, it looks to be missing a cable or rod that the twist throttle attaches to. And the twist handle.
