Assuming this is in fact a 1955 QD-16, is this a good motor?

One of the best in my opinion, and one of my favorites. Of course you’ll need to check all the vitals on yours to see if your particular one is a good motor. Start with a compression test…

I am a fan of the QD-16. I have 2 of them. One is in line for a tune up / resurrection soon. Excellent motors.

You would be surprised at how many parts are still available from your local Evinrude dealer. Do yourself a big favor and get a parts book specific for your motor. If you go to the dealer with part numbers in hand, all he has to do is order it and take your money. But if you don’t have the part number he might not give you the time of day because he doesn’t have the book either.

I don’t have that particular book, but if I did, I’d give you a copy. Perhaps somebody else has it?

And as Richard suggested, lots of parts are right here from various members. Post a want ad on this website’s classified ads page (Webvertize). The ad is free.

Thanks all. I’ll get to searching for a parts book for the 55 QD -16. Hopefully it’ll be fairly easy to get going and plenty of fun. Compression felt great when I pulled the string lightly before i took it home. My biggest fear was that it may have been locked up. But it felt pretty good and I’d love to get it going for my little Jon boat

Does the motor come with the tank? This vintage Evinrude and Johnson requires a 2 line pressure tank. 😉

No. Regretfully the motor didn’t come wit a fuel tank. I’ll be on the prowl trying to find a tank setup. Hopefully it won’t be to big of an issue?

Tanks are still out there. If you can’t find one, the motor could be retrofitted to use a fuel pump and a single line (non pressure) tank.

Well, I’ve been meaning to scan these in for whoever needs them ever since MarineEngine took down 1955. Finally got around to it.
