The O ring I purchased has the correct dimensions but the profile is different. Can I use it? Will it work better?

Absolutely no idea whatsoever, but your flatware is very nice!

I can’t think of any reason it shouldn’t work. Will it work “better”? That’s hard to say because the regular o-ring is not noted to be problematic in that location. I’d put it this way: Should work as well as the o-ring, if not better.

Where did you order that oring from? Is it some sort of OEM part? If not, I would think twice about using it….Resealing that gearcase is a big job, you only want to do it once…

Before choosing it, install it on the bearing carrier and check it with a straight edge to make sure it is at least slightly proud of the carrier surface. If it isn’t, you might as well not have it in as it won’t be sealing on the gear housing. Depending on the sealer you use, it shouldn’t really make too much of a difference. Just me, but I prefer using Permatex Adhesive Silicone sealant as it will seal with or without the O ring.

                Is the flatware real silver?

The lower crank seal on those 25hps were updated to a quad seal like the one you want to use so no reason why it shouldn’t work.
