Hi all,
At my parents we’ve found an old Evinrude Elto boat engine. I would like to know more about this engine, like from which year is it, which model, is it considered an engine worth keeping and maybe restoring in any way, etc. Any kind of input is very welcome.

I have searched through the Internet with no real success, and ended up here, and not sure if anyone here can help but it’s worth a shot I thought. Have a great weekend!
Best regards,
Magnus

Following is for a 1940 Sportsman. Some may not be accurate for your 1939.
Bore 1-3/4″ Stroke 1-35/64″, Displacement 3-3/4″, 2hp @ 3500 RPM. Prop dia and pitch 7″ x 6″ 2 blade. Breaker point gap 0.020″. Spark plug Champion H-10-J (H-10-C). Gap 0.025″. Shear pin 3/16″ x 15/16″ Aluminum. Weight 23-1/2 pounds. Oil 1/3 pint per gallon. Originally spec’d SAE-40. Water Cooled.
Now you can have fun converting all that to Metric.

April 27, 2019 at 6:13 pm #174440I have a Evinrude model 4285 and it is a 1938 Sportsman 2 hp. Just put your make and model number in your search and then look for marine engines.com. Select evinrude then select 2HP. List will then show the model and year for all 2 HP.
