I need a little help from anyone who can provide some information. Here is my story.
I own the family mahogany fishing boat that my parents purchased when I was 4 years old. It is powered by its original 1958 Evinrude Starflite 50HP V-4 outboard (Model 50515). When I was a teen, I found the orignal medallion from the front pull rope door laying under the floorboards. It was a trapezoid shaped gold letter "E" encased in plastic similar to the circular side medallions and the "Four-Fifty" and "Starflite" appliques pinned to the front of the hood, and it fell off into the floor boards when its glue and/or adhesive tape failed. I used 3M cement of that era to reattach the medallion. Unfortunately, a short time later, I looked back at the medallion and discovered a yellow glue stain instead of the medallion. I suspect that the medallion became lunch for a redfish in the Laguna Madre between Padre Island and Port Isabel, Texas.
While restoring the motor and family boat, I thought about using a gold sticker similar to the ones used on the 1958 Evinrude Lark and the 1958 Evinrude Four-Fifty; however, I have continued searching for the original plastic upgrade that was used on my Starflite. I have one very old and unclear photo of the front of our Starflite with the medallion in place, so I have no way to prove my point that it was not a sticker. I have never seen another Starflite hood with the plastic medallion on it either. I believe the adhesive used was inferior on all of the Starflite medallions. Pins would have been a better way to attach it.
Now that you know my story, here is what I need. Does anyone know where I can find a NOS part #278021 which is the medallion? Or part #277973 which is an entire door assembly with a medallion on it? In the alternative, can anyone provide a clear photo of a medallion as described? That’s your assignment guys. Please make my day. Thanks for taking the time to read this sob story.

__Frank R. – As I said in my writeup, the Lark is a metallic transfer decal. The Starflite part is a plastic piece with a golden Evinrude "E" encased in it. The Lark and the Four-Fifty are totally different parts.
__Fleetwin – Thanks for keeping your eyes open. I am determined to at least find a good photo of one someday.
__Mumbles – I know about Peter’s stuff and to the best of my knowledge, they have never made a reproduction of this part. I hope to find a good photo one day and possibly get someone like Peter to make me one.
Thank you all for your efforts and comments. There has got to be at least one of those parts left in this world. I keep my fingers crossed that I will find it.

July 4, 2016 at 8:55 am #39566I came across the Lark video when I was Googling, trying to find a picture of what the thing even looks like so I’d have an idea what I’m looking for. I found several pictures of the Starflite hood, but not a single one with the medallion still on it. Like you said, there has to be at least one out there somewhere.
July 4, 2016 at 5:31 pm #39573They probably nearly all ended up in the drink, if they were attached like he described.
July 4, 2016 at 6:27 pm #39577Page 1-36 of the Evinrude Service Manual fourth edition shows a pretty clear picture of the ’58 Starflite hood. The medallion is attached to the side, not the front of the motor.
I’ll post a picture when I figure out how to do that again..July 4, 2016 at 6:37 pm #39578 -
