I’m gathering up my tools and my courage to try to solder up an in tank fuel filter for my Johnson Model A.  I wonder if anyone has any suggestions on how to do this well?  I watched a great video on basic soldering that Mumbles posted https://www.aomci.org/forums/topic/soldering-tips/.  I’d be glad for more specific guidance on this particular project.  Here’s where I’m starting:

Here’s an inline filter I found in my Martin parts pile.  I wonder about the guy who spent his days making up these filters?  Looks like he took pride in his work.

        David,

I have made a few of these with pretty good results. Granted, they don’t look as good as the Martin Guy’s!  I made a couple wraps around the bolt, then tacked it in a couple places up the seam.  Then place it in your fitting and solder the screen to the brass fitting. Heat the fitting until the solder melts.  When yo get that done, just pinch and fold the top and add a drop of solder to hold it. I don’t think it’s too critical to solder every bit of the seam as long as you have good overlap of the screen.

        Stay warm.

Wow, that’s just what I was looking for. Thanks David!  Hope to see you at a meet, come spring.
