Set up the points on this, but could only find the index mark on the magneto plate, not the one on the flywheel – where is it typically located?

Overall Is struggling to start – I’ve never started this model before, but set at C, handle at mid travel point, compression relief open, when roped over it wants to start, but it drips fuel out the carb throat in any carb lever position.

If all th gaskets are in place, The float needle or seat may be corroded OR the float may have absorbed fuel mix and be too heavy OR The float level may be set too high. . . 😉

Thanks, dismantled the P45 carb…all the parts shown and checking against the parts list I couldn’t find any missing, bar the screen for the strainer. The valve control lever won’t move..I don’t want to force it – the spring is in situ behind it.

I did notice the wear on the brass disc which meant I had it the wrong way in – it’s slightly bowed too, which I assume is normal. I moved the cotter pin yesterday, as it was sitting in a dark coloured recess in the cork and then screwed it in a new position on the float with the pin straddling the needle cutout. The float needle has some wear where it seats – is that excessive? It’s seat shows no noticeable wear and when I invert the carb with fluid in the base of the chamber and the needle on the seat there is no leakage. The float has no glazing and ‘floats’ properly.

Reckon when I put it all back again, it’ll be fine…

So, this was the start-up session yesterday with carb flooding. I will get there after all the work I’ve done, but the strip and re-assemble of the carb did not help. Tomorrow will pick up a fellow enthuisiast, marine engineer, with an A-25 and A-35 and english ‘exotica’ and relieve another friend of some motors. For me an AA-37 and a 6039, to add to the 2CV coil powered Speedster and an OBL-70, A-45, ’56 40+ Seagull and ’67 JW 3hp. For him, who knows…
