Indian outboard found in family’s barn. It has been in the barn for over 40 years. It is in rough original shape, complete as far as I can tell. Located in Northern California near Eureka California but we do go down to the San Francisco Bay Area every so often. Looking to see if anyone can give a value on it and best venue to sell it. Thanks for any input.
July 28, 2022 at 1:12 pm #263737These motors are relatively rare. I’m not qualified to comment on value.
I’m sure there will be a lot of interest. Someone here keeps a list of serial numbers, so he may chime in soon .
July 28, 2022 at 2:21 pm #263738That’s a truly great barn find, one of the Holy Grails of antique outboard collecting. Tom Oncken here in the club is the Indian Special Interest Group leader and I’m sure he will contact you about this. It would be helpful to Tom’s documentation process if you could post a picture of the motor’s serial number found on the right side of the crankcase just next to the cylinder. The serial number will be something like DOxxxx. As far as value, recent sales of Indian outboards in decent condition have brought several thousand dollars, so you have found something special.

Could you post a picture of the serial number?
We have a member who is recording the numbers
to document how many still survive.

"Every time you remove a broken or seized bolt an angel gets his wings."July 31, 2022 at 12:08 am #263839This is just a little update for everyone. This motor is a 1930 Indian Silver Arrow “Series 602” 10HP outboard. Although in somewhat rough shape, it appears to be all original and mostly all there. It even has its original Tillotson MS20D carburetor and air horn on it. It would be an excellent candidate for restoration. Kirk has not checked to see if the powerhead is free at this time. Regardless, this is a wonderful find for Kirk. I hope he finds it a good home. This marks the 201st Indian outboard recorded in my files.
