Acquired a LeJay Electrol from a 79 year old gentleman who said it was his dad’s.

Straight shaft with lower unit, not curved like the weed eater type. Not the curvy all in one cowl either.

      Model/serial 46a25518

Using Peter Hunn’s book looks to be a post war model but think it is early in the post war era.

Does anyone have any knowledge on how to date it?

Also, motor turns when I rotate prop by hand.

Not sure which direction is off on the twist lever, all the way clockwise?

Battery leads look original and intact but rusty clips. Both wires are black, no designation as to positive negative. Any harm in hooking up backwards other than it turning backwards?

Anything I should check motor wise before hooking up to test?

Better with the gasser ob’s but the story of this thing was too great not to take and it was free!

      Thanks

      Allen

Do either of the wires have any raised lines or embossing on them? Anything that makes one wire different from the other? I think the wire with anything raised or lines on it will be positive wire? Be glad for anyone else to disagree here. If it is that old you might try 6 volts first. I don’t think that would hurt anything. Does it seem to have a bushes cover? You can remove that and see how the bushes look. A starter/generator/alternator place can still provide you with a stick that will clean the commutator while you spin the motor. Hope some of this helps! I have been wanting to pull the trigger on a LeJay Electrol for awhile now, but haven’t done it yet.

I did pick up a RO NO MO. Now I figure you guys are going to think I’m kidding you, but this thing is out of GA and that name is cast into the skeg of the motor. The motor goes underwater and it just has a bent steering shaft with an on/off switch. Very rudimentary. Patent was applied for, but never received from the research I have tried to do. I have never seen or heard of one or found anyone who has seen or heard of one? Try to get a pic out tomorrow.

Allen, I don’t really have any knowledge about those but looking at some ads I have saved and a couple on eBay that match your description, and going by the first 2 numbers of your model number, I’d say maybe 1946.

As for the battery, some ads say use 6 volt, others say 12 volt, the ’46 ad says use either.

Great ads. It looks like the 46 ad. Was thinking the same if the 46 id assumed to be the year.

No real difference on the wires that I can find yet. The motor says 6 or 12 on the plate".

Going to rack it for a while. Decided I want to pull the switch cover just to have a look first.

              Hi,

I picked one of these up at an auction recently. Works great. Can run on 6 volt or 12 volt. I took the cover off and the brushes were hardly worn. If you are interested in selling, please send me an email at ppi@rogers.com

              Regards,
