The same old need of pump leather seals… the last mention of him I can find was three years ago. Any alternatives would be considered as well, for now I’m attempting my own with scraps and punches with mixed results. Thank!
April 17, 2020 at 3:42 pm #200286Yes, I’m happy to say that Lloyd is still making and selling the leather primer seals.

April 19, 2020 at 11:48 am #200515Lloyd does your seal kit also work in the early QD carb?
April 19, 2020 at 1:58 pm #200524Larkbill. I have some QD’s that I restored years ago, but i don’t recall any primer mechanism on those motors. So I have to say my seals are not for the QD’s. My seals and instructions do work in all the Johnson 2.5 and 5.0 hp motors that have a primer for starting. Includes models LS,LT, AT, DT, TD, TN
April 22, 2020 at 8:25 am #200774Thanks for the reply, hope you’re doing well. Earliest QD, 10-13 I believe, look much like the ones shared with Evinrude but are completely different. No choke on the carb, but a primer instead. I need to dig out my Johnson master manual and look at the diagrams to see if the primers look similar.
I haven’t owned the smaller early Johnsons that used the design you are so familiar with. You must have worked on a bunch of them to get involved with making primer seals.
April 22, 2020 at 5:24 pm #200810My mother got my father a TD for their anniversary after he came back from Okinawa, before I was born in 1952. We fished with that motor all over the country. When i was a teenager back in the 1960’s I built a Minimax Hydroplane and the first motor I used on it was of course the TD. That’s when I discovered the primer wasn’t working and OMC didn’t sell them anymore. So I figured out how to make them, but I didn’t start making them for others until many years later when I joined the AOMC and learned there were many other good motors out there with the same problem.
April 22, 2020 at 8:32 pm #200846The QD does have a primer, but I do not believe these leather washers work for it.
