Assuming this kind of post is allowed…

I just posted an ad in the member classifieds, but I’m not sure that this forum might not get more coverage.  I’m looking for a 1963 lower cowl with the carry handle to replace a beat and bent up one on a motor I purchased this morning.

I’m wondering if $40 plus $15 shipping is reasonable or a little high.  If you have a lead for one in good shape at a better price, let me know.

Meanwhile I’ll search the forum for hints on cleaning an old white motor.

      Any input is appreciated.

How is it otherwise. Sometimes there is a lot more to the story than it first appears. The other guy’s trash does not always turn out to be your treasure.

As it happens I also picked up a Lightwin that was missing it’s cowels. Thru an ad on this site the cowls were found. It also had bee monkeys with so in addition to magneto rebuild and water pump impeller the hunt was on for some odds and ends. Beware of Money Pits…money goes in, but, seldom if ever comes out again. The price quoted (all things considered) may be a bargain IF that is all that is needed.

Usual projects are way back when Mercurys…OMC is a bit different, even more so due to later vintage.

Cron78…I have one and I think $25.00 plus whatever the shipping would be is more reasonable. My brother does all the shipping for our dealership so I’ll ask him in the morning what shipping should be…where are you located?

Crosby,  I’m in Panama City, FL.  I was already thinking that I would offer $25 plus shipping.

              Thanks

good little motors if not abused but you need to decide if repairs are cost prohibitive

if it runs good as is  and compression is ok  then  you can work  cosmetics  and innards (coils  impeller  carb  plug wires  etc….)

if you get a motor that runs good for  less than  200$  then you have  a nice little kicker for the cost of taxes on a new one.

                  motor cost+……

                  coils $25 each x2    points. maybe $20 x2   condensers $10×2    plug wires  $4×2  carb kit  20$  impeller  15$ ……   $125-$150 to  refurbish
