      Beginners luck strikes…

Finished the Sea King carb today. Mounted it and temporarily hung the fuel tank. I am using a brand new cork float with no sealer. I apologize for not being able to thank whomever suggested this, but using epoxy to secure the rough sized cork to a hex bolt and turning in the jaws of a drill was a genius idea, thank you!

Carb leaked a bit at first, but stopped. I messed with the speed screw and advance for about 5 minutes (lots of pops, no true ignition, wasn’t ‘running’) when all of a sudden the darn thing lit at probably 60% throttle. I was using a drill to turn over the motor and with no gear housing on it I shut it down right away.

Noted all my settings. Speed screw lightly seated, backed out 3/4 turn. Advance lever a few degrees to the right of dead center of the motor. (As you look at the front of the motor.) Dead center being the vertical line drawn thru the fuel shutoff valve.

Moved everything and reset to same configuration and it went right away again. Hot dang!

Tomorrow I am installing the lower gear case, wobbler, grease, etc. I’m going to try a tank test.

What should I be doing first? I’m assuming reduce advance and lean out speed screw slowly? Fortunately I kinda know how to get it started, now I’m looking to get it running. Remember, you have an outboard newb here.

      Thank you
