I have a 49 Johnson qd-10 that was running well after I did a restore on it. However the float is the original cork and varnish and this new crap fuel has eaten the varnish. The cork has separated in a few spots but i believe it is salvageable. Can I get a new float made of modern material for this carb or would I be better off sealing this one with something and if so what should I use? I am also able to make a new float if it is required but if that is the case what material is best suited to the ethanol fuels out there today?

I don’t know anything about making floats, but if you want to seal the original one, use something like SIG supercoat – fuel proof butyrate dope.

but crazy glue seems to work also … 2-3 coats of crazy glue to seal it up…..

fuel proof clear model airplane dope seems to work pretty good, have had good luck with that
              on several motors
