      I tried to made a 1960 "frankietwin" mixing a ’60 FD leg/gearcase with a ’60 QD PH and cover.

The project aborted because the lower cover front bracket of the QD cannot fit on the FD leg
I need to swap also the front carrying handle, but I suppose the steering pivots also not fit …

If you’re pushing a 14 foot boat though, stepping up to a ’57 Fastwin 18 is a better choice yet.

Agreed! An eighteen on a fourteen foot tinner is a great combination!

I actually have a "Frankentwin" 18 that I just got running last weekend. It’s a 57 Fastwin with a 58 FD lower unit on it. The paint looks like hell and it’s been rattle canned, but this motor runs great. Those old 18’s are tough as nail and handle a lot of neglect and abuse. I think I’m going to put the lower back on the FD and restore it though. Plus do the same with the Fastwin. Both of my 18’s are factory electric motors.

Guys, I know this is an old thread, but will this upgrade work on a 1954 10hp powerhead?

If you want to upgrade your pre ’61 10hp powerhead, order the following:

              Wrist Pin 307849 x2
              Connecting Rod 378330 x2
              Piston 378285 x2
              Needle Bearing 378251×2
              Big End Needles 378150 x2
              Piston Rings 378416 x2
              Circlips 302577 x 4

Then if you have her apart, might as well change the carbon seal o rings

              301967 x2

How far back does that go? Down to the QD14? the QD13? Any pre-61 10HP?

I believe it goes all the way back to QD-10? Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

I actually have a ’55 QD in pieces now. Fortunately, I found a good rod set out of a ’53, so I won’t need these mods this time. Will keep this in mind though.

Tip: The wrist pin bore in the piston is usually worn even worse than the bushing in the rod.
